Amen! If all university presidents showed such wisdom and courage, academia would still be respected by the public!

I am NOT John Habidacus, but I'm a retired IU professor. Some backstory is that President Whitten, who had already had a 90% No Confidence vote from 800 faculty at a big official meeting, decided to bring in the state police including snipers to arrest protesters many hours before their tents would have broken the no-overnight-tents rule. They came back, she did it again. They came back, she gave up, and the tents are now there overnight for a week or so. The different Schools (Law, Music, etc.) then all voted separately and of 1200 votes she had about 90% of faculty vote to fire her, her biggest support being in the bus-school, where it was more like 80%.

I recall the era when IU was managed by reputable individuals:

Unfortunately, those days have passed. Now, there appears to be a deliberate effort to ignore the genocide in Gaza in order to maintain financial contributions from the Israel lobby. Professor John Mearsheimer has extensively discussed how the Israel lobby's influence might infringe upon American freedoms and the constitution.

Yeah, not particularly compelling. Sorry.

You probably think Antifa and BLM and DEI and CRT and ESG and Antiracism and CEI and all the other woke stuff is great. If we could only drive out all STEM from Western societies, you would have your paradise, right?

Let's eliminate all Jews and all males and all whites and white adjacents like Asians and heterosexuals and heteronormatives and cis gender types and so on...all the "oppressor" groups, and then there would be a fair and just Utopia, correct?

Somehow, these ideas, while popular among a certain segment of fruitcakes at the moment, do not seem likely to create a wonderful future to me.

It might have been best to conclude your post after 'You probably think.' I would appreciate it if you didn’t make assumptions about my thoughts, as it can lead to you embarrassing yourself.

Obviously, I would disagree with that characterization. You have caught the "woke mind virus", in addition to that ancient ill, antisemitism of course. And you think you are virtuous beyond compare. Whatever...

Ya might want to check out the Qatari lobby. They spend exponentially more on our politics FYI. But! The Joozs!

You are welcome to discuss it with Professor John Mearsheimer . Show us your rhetorical abilities.

Ah, you get to stand behind links but I must debate JM🤨 He’s pretty on point concerning Russia/Ukraine/NATO but he’s got a pretty massive blind spot on Israel and the surrounding 20+ Arab countries. But you do you.

Quotes from the article:

"Persons not affiliated with Indiana University will not be permitted to join campus protests. If they try, they will be arrested and prosecuted for trespassing."

"I invite and encourage the trustees to terminate my contract if they find these measures inappropriate."

The author, an IU professor, talks tough (and anonymously) in this article but is betting their job on the wrong horse because IU is a public university and as such cannot expect to successfully prosecute members of the public for trespassing.

Here's some background reading (from Texas but I presume that Indiana is also still a state of the USA.)

It's disappointing to watch commenters who claim to advocate for free expression or constitutional civil rights turn their colors, apparently because it's not speech that they support.

From our past interactions, I would guess that you favor shutting down all universities and colleges worldwide for the foreseeable future, and letting these antisemitic "Kill The Jews" activists run rampant, disrupting everything, threatening and destroying. Of this I have little doubt.

So, "Dr." McCullough, how would you like it if these same activists (or others of their "ilk"; let's face it, they really do not give a damn about the Palestinians, do they?) were calling for your own execution, I wonder? What if they were calling nonstop for the rape and slaughter of your family members? Still think this sort of stuff is just "free speech"? What if people confronted you anywhere you showed up in public to do the same, as the illustrious Maxine Waters and Barack Hussein Obama have suggested previously? Think that would be nice? Welcome? Would it contribute to a pleasant atmosphere?

I know you do not have much of a job, so losing your employment is probably meaningless, and not much of a threat.

Just think about that for a bit.

What sort of a world do you want to live in?

I live in a pretty good world, but one with lots of problems. One small problem I experience is anonymous commenters attempting to put words in my mouth. I also find it part of living in this world to put up with people who do not know my life story and yet think they do. Presumptuousness is so common.

Sure, sure. You are wonderful. I got it. Just like your buddy "Holden". What a name! It just drips with white privilege...wow. Just like yours.

In addition, I notice that your beloved fellow classmate and incredible "success", Science Magazine Editor-in-Chief Holden Thorpe seems to hold very similar views to you. And he never hesitates to reveal them, seemingly without much prior thought.

I am astounded that this is who our "representative" is, and a prominent face of science to the public.

Sort of off-putting.

No. People don’t mind protest per se. It’s when students start camping out for days on end and disrupt classes that it’s a problem.

Ah! Upon reading again, I see that the author is not betting their job ... the bluff is part of the President's imagined fever dream. Dream on...
