Nice essay. Have only one minor nit to pick: That Dai is suicidal and depressed may have nothing to do with the inability of Cornell to teach resiliency. Some people suffer from depression regardless of how resilient they are. I know of two people close to me who were as resilient as they come who nevertheless suffered from depression. Attributing depression to some external cause is often incorrect.

In reality, this problem was solved in the 1j960s by Ronald Arlie Christensen, then a PhD candidate in the theoretical physics program of the University of California, Berkeley. I realized that he was describing me. Our entire culture had become relative.
