To those like me who would find your essay too polemical, I suggest that they read the free-text responses selected by the Nature article's author for inclusion at the end of the article because those comments rather uniformly reiterate your claim of a malaise from the perception of the unfairness and the ineffectiveness of current practices, from many different respondents worldwide. Caveats: the author of the Nature article appears to be an older white male, and the 3200 respondents were self-selected.
